6 Guidelines On How To Land That Perfect Job

Job hunting can be a challenging experience, but it can also be exciting.

If you have your heart set on finding the ideal job, prepare yourself to put in the hard work. The process involves planning, meeting new people, decision-making, and putting your best foot forward to impress potential employers.

Remember, you will probably be competing with individuals that are more experienced and qualified than you, but this is no reason to sell yourself short.

What makes you unique as a person, and why do you think you are the perfect candidate for the job? You need to step into the interviewer’s shoes and see yourself through his or her eyes. It is time to put in everything you’ve got and impress them with your educational background, knowledge, unique skills, and, most importantly, your personality.

Prepare yourself for a few disappointments along the way. Often, it takes several interviews before you finally make the cut. I know how difficult the entire process can be, and that is why I’m sharing a few valuable tips to make it a little easier and help you better your chances of getting the job.

6 Guidelines on How to Land That Perfect Job

6 Guidelines on How to Land That Perfect Job

1. Start With Cleaning Up Social Media Accounts

In this day and age of the internet and social media, the odds are high that a potential employer might look you up to find out more about you.

Google yourself and ask yourself: “Does my profile make a good impression”? If the answer is no, it’s time to start deleting photos and posts that might hinder your chances of getting the job.

If about eighty percent of your photos involve you drinking and partying with friends, it may leave a bad impression. It might be a good idea to remove long religious or political rants, any inappropriate content, and offensive photographs.

Also, adjust your privacy settings so that people that are not on your friend list cannot see too much information.

2. Update Your LinkedIn Profile

LinkedIn is an excellent networking and job-hunting platform that benefits both job seekers and employers. It is a public representation of your career journey and professional persona.

Make sure the information on your profile coincides with your resume. If your profile picture looks a bit too informal, maybe invest in the services of a professional photographer to take a few professional photographs that you can use for career-driven sites like these.

3. Start Networking

One of the most valuable job-seeking tips is leveraging your present contacts, ex-colleagues, family members, and friends to put a good word in for you at companies they know of that are hiring.

Spend time making phone calls, attending networking events, and speaking to people at social events to get the word out that you’re currently job hunting. It may not sound like much, but sometimes it can mean the difference between unemployment and landing the perfect job.

4. Treat Job Hunting as a Job

Have you done everything you possibly could to further your chances of finding work? To reap the rewards, you must be willing to put in the work. You need to treat job hunting as a job.

Browse through all job search websites, network among friends and family, and email your CV to all available job opportunities that you’re interested in.

5. Update Your Resume

Make sure your resume contains relevant information about your employment history, highlighting the skills that are most suitable for the job that you are interested in.

For instance, if you’re interested in a secretarial position, highlight your admin-related, typing, and organisational skills. Always be honest, and don’t include information you cannot validate.

6. Remember to Practice Self-Care

Job searching can be disheartening and tedious sometimes, so remember to practice self-care to keep yourself motivated. Make sure you eat regular meals, get enough rest, and look after your overall health.

Remember, you need to be your best possible self to make a good impression.
